Re: Fishing under Police Protection – Who Owns the Gulf of Piran?

The Gulf of Piran has long been a source of dispute between the neighboring nations of Slovenia and Croatia. After becoming independent nations in the 1990s, both countries claimed the territory. Now, the conflict threatens to escalate.

Since an incident in late December, the Croatian fishermen now set sail accompanied by the flashing lights of Croatian police protection when fishing in the gulf zone claimed by Slovenia – where they are in turn met by Slovenian police.
