Tourism is booming in Spain, but hotel maids there are not among the winners of the holiday paradise. More and more hotels are outsourcing their cleaning services to external firms, few of which follow any established standards.

Starvation wages, unpaid overtime, and short-term contracts that expire after a few weeks, not to mention psychological pressure and mobbing – the work conditions in the Spanish hotel sector are often appalling. But now the hotel maids are beginning rise up against their precarious situation.
